The Greenhouse at Hudson Farm

Our greenhouse supplies the kitchen with year-round fresh-picked quality produce, houses fish raised to stock our ponds, and provides a conservatory for quiet reflection. The 6,000 sq ft ridge-and-furrow glass house was constructed in 2018 by the Van Wingerden Company and features a fully-automated Priva environmental control system.

Hydroponic Vegetables

Hydroponics is a method of growing plants in a nutrient-rich, water-based environment. The recirculating systems require 80% less water than in traditional agriculture, and efficient use of nutrients prevents run-off pollution of waterways. Pesticides are rarely needed as the absence of soil means no weeds and a much lower threat of insects and disease. We are always trying something new with our five different hydroponic systems: The Ebb & Flow Table, Nutrient Film Channels, Deepwater Raft Pond, Bato Buckets, and Aeroponic Towers.

Aquaculture

Rainbow trout, largemouth bass, and black crappie are reared in 750 gallon tanks to stock our ponds and streams for recreational fishing. The temperature-controlled recirculating system is fitted with oxygen injection and biofilters. Fathead minnows, scuds, and freshwater shrimp are also raised to provide a supplemental food source after release.

Conservatory

This enchanting room filled with tropical plants and water features provides a quiet, out-of-the way spot to relax. Sail the bread basket to your companions across our own Finger Bowl dining pool, inspired by Gifford Pinchot’s at Grey Towers.
